There are so many available financial aid that help pay for college education. It could be from private or public sectors. They may be in the form of a work study grant, loans, scholarships or school grant. Each of these grants has their own benefits so it is best to know the disadvantages of one financial aid over the other. Just like any minority groups, the Native American students can search and avail of various financial aid that can help them pursue a college education. These grants are similar to existing ones being offered to regular American student. One is eligible to federal grants if one is on the official roll of a tribe. This would mean that the complete costs of education is fully shouldered. There is a need to discuss this matter with a tribe's administration to verify one's official roll in the tribe. Once this is accomplished, the next step is to talk to one's high school counselor and talk about the grants available. The usual requirement is that one is at least 1/8 Native American. The criteria varies per grant, so it is necessary to speak to authorities of the tribe.

For degrees such as education or medicine, there are available Native American grants since these are under represented degrees. The primary goal if these grants is to ameliorate the condition of the communities represented by the recipients of the grants. If one is interested for this grant, one must talk to the department of the college or university of one's preference. It is a must to know the requirements in order to qualify. There is a need to contact the involved departments once one decided on the degree to be pursued since the funds are on a first come, first served basis. One should not limit his or her resources from the usual Native American grants. Remember that one can apply for grants that serve and promote the interests of minorities from all races. Since there is an abundance of minority grants, it is best that one applies to as many grants as possible. This of course can increase one's chances of receiving a grant. Also, once approved with a number of grants, the cost of one's education is greatly minimized. There are lots of grants that one can discover via online research. All you have to do is key in the keyword "minority" instead of the usual "Native American".
