Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant program (FSEOG) helps students who are in ultimate financial distress. This grant is based on someone's needs. There is always a need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. This is one way of checking the financial status of the applicant. Awardees can actually use the money to pursue education to nearly 4,000 universities and colleges. This program provides financial grant to the applicant with the lowest Expected Family Contribution. For anyone's easy reference, the Expected Family Contribution is based on various factors like the size of the family, net assets and the family's income level. The involved educational institutions are given the power to decide on the amount of FSEOG money that can be distributed to the qualified applicants. One must take note that the money is available to the applicants already enrolled or are recently approved for enrollment from their respective schools. It is also important to know that recipients of the Pell Grant are prioritized for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant program. It is important that students take advantage of this opportunity especially if their school is a participant of the FSEOG program. One must be realistic with their application for federal grants. The processing of the application forms is not fast since there are many applicants that are being screened. It is also possible that once processed, the money is already consumed. This may sound funny but one must realize that the federal government gives the money to the participating schools. Once the money is transferred, it is now the school's discretion when the money will be awarded to the rightful recipient. In this case, there is really no need to stall one's application.

FSEOG program's awarded money varies. Since the school decides the allotment of the funds, it is possible that a $100 award may be given. The maximum amount that can be awarded to a recipient is around $4,000 per school year. Remember that the biggest amount of financial aid is being given to the student who is in most need. If someone is in his or her most worse financial situation, it is best to fill out the FAFSA immediately. If one is qualified for the Pell Grant, then he or she can apply for the FSEOG as long as you are currently enrolled or already approved for enrollment in your preferred school. One's initiative is highly needed. One has to be pro-active. One has to do his or her share to earn whatever financial aid available. Remember that many students are applying for these highly coveted school grants and scholarships. Action is indeed required in the soonest possible time.
